The Job
Jill, in Runcorn, could hear rats climbing up inside her walls and called us. We were there the next day.
What We Found
Outside, there were four holes where the rats were getting in, and they were also coming in through the drains. Rats that get into a cavity wall can climb straight up it and come out in the loft, which is how they end up scratching inside the walls.
What We Did
- Cleared the whole loft.
- Fully decontaminated it.
- Filled the four entry holes with mesh so the rats couldn't get back in that way.
- Fitted a one-way valve in the gutter, which lets water out but stops rats coming back in.
Why Sealing the Way In Matters
Decontaminating a loft cleans it, but it does nothing to keep rats out. If the holes and the drain route are left open, they come back and the clean-up is wasted, so finding and closing the way in was as much a part of this job as clearing the loft. There is more on how rats and mice get in on our rodent-damaged loft insulation page.
The Result
The loft was cleared and decontaminated, the four holes were meshed and the valve was fitted, so the rats couldn't get back in the way they came. If you can hear rats in your walls or loft, send a couple of photos through the quote form or call 0161 524 5081.
